Meet the Caregiven Team
Every member of Caregiven’s team has lost a loved one. Together they have over 100 years of experience as caregivers and in developing products and solutions that improve the care economy.
Candice Smith is the Founder and CEO of Caregiven. Candice has over 20 years of experience as a top-level fundraiser. In this capacity, she has secured million-dollar commitments, streamlined systems, and developed relationships and partnerships between institutions, donors, and communities.
Candice was inspired to start Caregiven following the death of her father in 2016. Her mission is to empower caregivers to navigate their loved ones’ end-of-life journey with focus and feeling, honoring wishes and reducing regrets. Caregivers gain guidance, tools, and a clear roadmap for the end-of-life journey of their loved ones, all in a powerful, easy-to-use app.
“I founded Caregiven so that no other son or daughter would feel as I did when caring for my Dad. I knew there had to be a better way and decided to use my personal experience as the starting point.”
Rebecca is Caregiven’s co-founder and CTO.
Prior to joining Caregiven, she served as Vice President of Engineering for New Relic, a cloud-based software platform, owning structure, strategy, and execution for technical product development. Leveraging more than 20 years of experience in systems and software development, Rebecca owns creating Caregiven’s powerful, easy-to-use platform.
"When my Mom was in hospice, I got a first-hand look at how difficult the journey can be for both caregivers and our loved ones. With Caregiven, I’m committed to empowering every caregiver to manage this transition with more support, guidance, and care."

"Being a caregiver is difficult on many levels. There is no common language, roadmap, or go-to protocol. In my four years as a caregiver, I lived this daily challenge; doing my best to navigate my loved one’s medical, legal, spiritual, familial, and personal needs. It’s a final act of love, and it’s exhausting.
Working with Caregiven, I am empowering caregivers to do the courageous work of managing their loved ones’ end-of-life journey with care, calm and confidence."
Barbara Nicholson is Caregiven’s resident healthcare expert. Prior to joining the Caregiven team, Barb was the Director of Providence St. Joseph Health Cancer Institute. She has over two decades of experience as an active and visible agent for positive changes, new opportunities, and continuous improvements, collaborating closely with therapists, providers, social workers, and administrators to deliver on Providence’s mission of excellent client care.
Barbara is also an adjunct professor at both Pacific University and George Fox University, as well as a national instructor on Breast Cancer Rehabilitation.
"When my Mom became ill, even as a healthcare provider, I found it difficult to navigate all that came up, at the end of her life. Caregiven gives me an opportunity to support the creation of a much-needed tool that helps ease the way for others, as they assist their loved one through the end-of-life journey."
